The Chase

Updated: 4 days ago

ree

And the black dog sits

And snarls

Whilst the couch suffocates

And the walls are damp

And the clock ticks

Then I stand there

Eyes drawn away

I get my trainers

My trainers

Stare back

They have no answers

And the clock ticks

I stare at them

And they stare back

The black dog snarls

I put the trainers on

And exit the flat

The black dog runs

Nipping at my heels

And the chase is on

My mind wants to stop

My mind says no

But I run on

The black dog is gaining

Howling at the moon

I break through

Focus, clarity,

mind adrift in a stream of blinding light

And shadows shift away retreating

I run on

I turn

The black dog slows

I run

The black dog

Shrinks

I turn

I run

The black dog's tail beneath him

Flails in the moon light

Shrinking turning backwards

And I run

Run at him

Run at pain

Run at the dark night of my soul

I run

I feel

I breathe

I win

Again
